Anna Wintour Laughs on Letterman
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News, Videos, Women,
Watching the Late Night with David Letterman show is not one of my pastimes; however, when I read the news that Anna Wintour (a woman who is rarely seen on television, mind you) was scheduled to appear on the talk show, I had my eyes glued to the tube. As you can tell from the clip, it was not something you’d want to miss.
Despite her efforts at the jokes she was obviously fed, I’m shocked that she looks a bit natural when she laughs. Who knew that it was it possible!
Then again, Marc Jacobs did call Anna motherly.

Ashley Olsen May Leave Fashion Career
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Women,
From Full House to fashion house, Ashley Olsen has made quite the transition into her in vogue profession.
Despite her success with The Row, Ashley points out that she might not have necessarily found her true calling just yet.
“(In the fashion world) everyone is just really looking out for themselves. I don’t know if I’ll be designing this collection forever. A couple of years from now, I’m sure I’ll want to do something else, and I’m not going to shy away from that.”
As if no one’s looking out for themselves in other professions…
“What if I just want to be an artist, or if I want to go back to acting? Which is not in the cards, but what if I wanted to do that?”
Oh, Ashley—do you realize that you don’t even have to work with that fortune you’re sitting on?

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Sales, Women, Bottoms, Dresses, Footwear, Tops,
Christopher Kane’s Topshop line is finally here, and the folks at British retail chain offer us a peek with the collection’s lookbook.
Although the line isn’t due in stores until next month, much buzz has been circulating around the Versace designer’s 39 pieces. By the looks of the photos (seen after the jump), it is obvious as to why the hype has originated.
The collection, ranging from $60 for a scarf to $310 for a dress, unfortunately isn’t the cheapest. With dresses like these, however, I think that I can make quite the exception!
The line is expected to come complete with shoes and bags.

Those who closely observed Thursday’s Project Runway: All-Star Challenge may have noticed one thing missing.

Hayden Christensen in Lacoste Challenge Commercial
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrities,
Jumper‘s Hayden Christensen may good at leaping through time, but he’s also quite adept at grasping flying objects.
Of course, the design of Lacoste’s new fragrance - Lacoste Challenge - probably didn’t hurt. The company, which is widely known for its line of tennis shirts, created a bottle with a racket handle-esque grip.
Christensen’s next project - New York, I Love You - is due out on October 16.

Quote of the Day: Marc Jacobs on Maternal Anna Wintour
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrities, Rumors,
“When I was having some personal problems, Anna was always there for me. She’s really a great editor. And she’s a good mother. She’s very maternal and caring to people she cares about. Anna’s really quite a warm person, who maybe has a different reputation. But in real life she’s very warm…and generous.”
-Designer on Marc Jacobs describing Anna Wintour, Vogue‘s editor-in-chief. (Wintour is rumored to be the inspiration behind the Miranda Priestly character in The Devil Wears Prada.)

Someone at Condé Nast needs to start cross-referencing their editorials more often. September’s issue of Vogue features an editorial titled “Into the Woods,” which bears a striking resemblance to a 2007 editorial in W.
On top of the fact that both are Condé Nast publications, both editorials were shot by the same photographers—Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. I’m not sure if it’s worse that you copied yourself than it is if you copied another photographer in a different publication! Check out more of the copy-cat photos after the jump.

Stella McCartney Admired Mother’s Style
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Women,
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Stella McCartney said that her collections are inspired by her late mother’s daring style. The British designer admires Linda McCartney, who died in 1998 from breast cancer, because she made brave fashion choices and refused to conform.
“I love the way my mother wore clothes. She used to always cut her own hair and wore very little make-up, and she just did things differently. She used to wear odd, different-color argyle socks—which takes balls in the public eye—but then she also wore beautiful British tailored suits and little tea dresses with platform shoes. That is sort of how people dress now, so she was very modern and ahead of her time in many ways. She didn’t give a damn about what people thought, and back then it was all about conforming. It really wasn’t the done thing to reflect your own personality through your clothes.”
Stella also inherited her mother’s strict vegetarian diet and opposition to wearing clothes made from animal products.

Sass and Bide Plan UK Anniversary
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News, Women,
Sass and Bide will celebrate its 10th anniversary at London Fashion week. The quirky Australian clothing label will return to the British fashion scene this September to pay tribute to the city where designers Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton founded the business idea.
The designers said: “Ten years ago the concept for Sass and Bide was born in London. To be returning here ten years later, showing in a city that we love so much and that fuels our creativity, is really exciting.”
The Sydney-based pair—whose celebrity fans include Lindsay Lohan and Russell Brand—will host their show on Friday September 18 at 7:15pm in central London.
As well as marking the label’s landmark birthday, London Fashion Week will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary. British Fashion Council chairman Harold Tillman said he and his colleagues are “delighted” about the joint celebration. He explained:
“We are delighted that Sass and Bide will show their collection in London this season. The company has built a strong international following over the past decade and they are a great addition to our schedule as we both celebrate landmark anniversaries.”
